SP1.2.10 The First Delphi Consensus on Surgical Ward Round

Abstract Background The ward round is an integral part of everyday surgical practice. It a complex clinical activity that requires management and communication skills. has impact on patient safety, mortality quality the healthcare services delivered. This study reports results consensus-building exercise common aspects general rounds. Methods committee involving range stakeholders from 16 NHS trusts took in this consensus exercise. members discussed suggested series statements concerning round. An agreement ≥ 70% amongst was regarded as consensus. Results Thirty-two voted 60 statements. There fifty-nine after first voting, one statement modified before it reached second covered nine sections: preparation phase, team allocation, multidisciplinary approach to round, structure teaching considerations, confidentiality privacy, documentation, post-round arrangements, weekend spending time prepare for consultant-led nursing staff, MDT at beginning end week, minimum 5 minutes allocated each patient, utilisation checklist, afternoon virtual clear handover plan weekend. Conclusion achieved several should help improve care practice wards.
